Sew Modern West LA - Lazy Angle Ruler Class with Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts

I've been quilting for about two years now and recently I started craving new patterns and ways to cut fabrics into odd shapes, triangles or circles - anything other than squares! When I heard that Julie Herman from Jaybird Quilts was showing up to teach a Lazy Angle Ruler Class at Sew Modern on Pico Blvd in West LA, I signed right up. I didn't even know who Julie was (although in the quilting world apparently she's famous), but after I took the class and looked up her blog, I realized I already had one of her patterns - since I bought Quick Quilts Magazine with her featured on the cover!! She's a sewing superstar and I got her personalized instruction - how lucky!

Well, thanks to it, I see it's a lot easier to make stars and triangles than I thought it would be, and I'm SEW excited to apply my new skills to tons of throws. Furthermore, several of the other women in the class were part of the newly formed Modern Quilt Guild of LA and I got inspired by listening about what they're working on. All in all, it was a great class! Thanks, Sew Modern.

Here are my class pics:

Julie!
She's moving here from Philly (and being a native, she likes Pod more than The Dandelion when we talked Steven Starr restaurants as I did at the end of my first restaurant post), so maybe someday you can take her classes too.

Setting us up with 6 and a half inch strips.

Let the Lazy Angel cutting begin!

See, I can do stars like that too now!!

The whole ruler is there on the top left. You can buy them at Sew Modern on Pico Blvd in West LA.

The ruler, the patterns, ooh la la.

Julie's quilt and pattern called "Unwind"

Julie's "Hugs and Kisses" - I'm working on one of these next!
